How can it be December already?
A Happy Letter: Vol. IX
Happy Friday, everyone!
Every time I opened my laptop over the last week, my background caught my attention.
Two years ago, I started making a digital vision board that I use as my computer background. It’s a collage of images found online that represent the things I want to work toward during the year ahead.
As I looked at my vision board for 2022, I was shocked—it feels like just yesterday that I was making it. And it seemed only a few days before that I was making the one for 2021!
(I still remember that one too—there were babies on it! My, how things have changed.)
If you’re curious, here’s my board for this year.
Looking back at it, there are things I achieved. I read more than I have in years. I started writing more regularly (though not a book). I quit my job in a school district. I kept a sourdough starter alive AND have used it to regularly bake fermented goodies. I used my money and my voice to support causes I care about (thought not quite vote due to user error with registration).
There are also things I haven’t done. I haven’t learned to knit, and I’ve still spent too much time on my phone rather than tangible past times like games. I’ve spent more money than I should have in areas I could have been content with. I still don’t eat enough leafy greens.
Why am I rambling on about this?
Well, don’t we all get a bit reflective at this time of year?
And with having a particularly restful and also productive Thanksgiving break, I’m going into December with very little Christmas prep left and even more time to reflect.
What does 2023 hold for me personally? Professionally? Now’s the time to consider without judging 2022.
As we edge closer to the end of the year, I hope you’ll take some moments to think about the past year and the upcoming year. I hope you’ll be critical, honest, and gracious toward yourself as you contemplate what you would like to do—or not do—in the upcoming months. That’s what I’ll be doing.
Though I’m in the middle of several projects right now, I’ve nothing new to share from the past week. My blog posts are still in draft mode and my new product is coming together bit by bit.
Maybe remember that too— not having a visible “end result” doesn’t mean you haven’t been moving toward something.
