Twas the Week Before Thanksgiving
A Happy Letter Vol. VIII
Hello, everyone!
To everyone working in a school, I hope you’ve all had a lovely week before Thanksgiving break! I’m looking forward to giving myself a bit of a break next week as well, keeping the tasks to a minimum as I spend the week making paper crowns, paper chains, and bunting for Christmas. And drinking mulled wine 🍷
With that in mind, I’ll likely not send out this newsletter next week, but I am hoping to send out my first A Happy Reader! Stay tuned.
So, let’s chat about what is new at A Happy Learner this week.
First up, I gave my Tier 2 Vocabulary Unit a bit of a polish. Not much has realy changed here, I just gave it a check for typos and consistency and made a few small changes in that arena.
If you’re unfamilar with this unit…
This was designed to help prep older students for assignments and tests. It covers frequently occurring tier 2 verbs such as “analyze,” “determine,” and “infer” as well as nouns such as “mood,” “tone,” and “evidence.” I’ve included quizzes, a knowledge rating scale, a word wall, definition matching cards, a textbook scavenger hunt, and task cards for practice.
This is definitely a unit that’s meant for students in middle age and higher!
And new in the store, I’ve added an Irregular Past Tense Verbs Unit! There’s also a free sample that includes samples of each worksheet type.
This unit targets 60 frequently occurring irregular past tense verbs in several different ways. There are two sorting activities and 4 different types of worksheets (6 of each!).
And, over on the blog I’ve added to last week’s post on teaching staying on topic by writing a new post sharing 8 Resources for Teaching Staying on Topic. Building on my personal structure for teaching students topic maintenance, I’ve shared 8 different resources to add to your tool kit—6 that fit in with my structure, 1 comprehensive unit, and 1 data keeping tool.
Looking forward to next week, expect a couple new blog posts on some books I’ve finished lately. I’ll also be hard at work on a new (!) product that I am so excited about. I can’t wait for it to hopefully launch in the new year.
I think that’s all for this week’s update. I hope you enjoy your holiday next week if you get one—take some time to rest. You deserve it!
Until December,
Christin ☕️
